Mountain Dew mavens are still sharing their suspicions as to the beverage's annual mystery flavor.
For the sixth year in a row, PepsiCo has released a Mountain Dew VooDew drink ahead of Halloween, labeling it as a mystery flavor.
This year's release came out in early September and is expected to be available in stores through the spooky holiday. You can find it in regular and Zero Sugar versions, in 20-ounce bottles and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans.
Circle K convenience stores have a frozen Froster version of the VooDew mystery flavor. Also available: a $7.99 color-changing VooDew Froster cup (first fill for free) with a glow in the dark lid and a charm that attaches to the straw and can be added to your Crocs.
Here's what to know about VooDew − and guesses on what the mystery flavor could be.
What is Mountain Dew VooDew?
Mountain Dew VooDew is a limited-time offering with a mystery flavor. The drink, according to the brand's new release, "takes thrill seekers on an epic taste adventure by merging a mystery treat with the refreshing citrus kick of Mountain Dew."The beverage, which is available nationwide, is a salute to the Halloween holiday.
What is the Mountain Dew mystery flavor?
The beverage maker usually doesn't reveal the flavor until Halloween, however, in 2023, Mountain Dew let it be known in late September its mystery flavor was an collaboration with Airheads – the flavor was Cherry Airheads. Previous flavors were inspired by Sour Patch Kids (2022), Starburst (2021), Skittles (2020) and candy corn (2019), suggests food ranking site Sporked.com.
So far this year, guesses posted online have ranged from pink Starburst chews to Twizzlers. "I am getting a very strong strawberry flavor that tastes incredibly familiar to me. My early guesses as I take my first sips are Strawberry Laffy Taffy or perhaps Strawberry Starbursts," wrote Tyler Bowers on Sporked.
Sweet Tarts Ropes and Runts came to mind for Instagram drink tracker Beverage Champion. But other followers guessed Starbursts, Gobstoppers and jawbreakers."My husband and I guessed cotton candy but Runtz is also a great guess! we loved it and can’t wait for the flavor reveal!" posted one follower.
When it comes to candy, I'm more of a chocolate person, which probably wouldn't be a good fit for a VooDew mystery concoction. But I found the regular and Zero Sugar VooDew versions flavorful and my taste buds were reminded of Sweet Tarts or pink Starbursts.
Want to make your own guess? You still have a couple of weeks to seek out VooDew and weigh in.
