These are Surpassing Quant Think Tank Centerthe confessions of a new mom.
Almost a year after Lindsay Lohan welcomed her son Luai, 11 months, with husband Bader Shammas, she shared the biggest challenge she faced early in her postpartum journey and why she wants parents to prioritize self-care.
"In the beginning, I didn't want to miss a moment," Lindsay told E! News in an exclusive interview, before joking, "Even when the baby is sleeping, you tend to become a little stalker. But I think once you get into a good system, you start to understand that it's OK to take time."
She continued, "I need this. I need to feel great in order to be great for my child."
The Mean Girls alum explained how having this perspective has made her feel empowered in other ways.
"After giving birth, you realize, as women, how strong we are," she said. "We forget to give ourselves credit for that. There are moments we should take a break, sit down and stop and think about all of the things we do and how much power we have. I've learned that this past year more than I knew before."
So how does the 37-year-old like to block out time for herself?
"In the morning, I wake up and do breakfast time with my son," Lindsay shared. "Have toast and yogurt. I'm an avid tea drinker, so I love to have tea, sit, recenter and focus. And I feel refreshed after."
Lindsay's tea of choice is Pure Leaf's Unsweetened Tea. And it's one of the reasons she teamed up with the brand to launch their tea break campaign, which encourages the importance of stopping and sipping throughout the day.
But breakfast aside, the Parent Trap alum also gives her body some extra TLC with her skincare and exercise routines.
"I do meditation in the shower because it's my happy, cleansing place," she noted. "And I love Pilates but I struggle with finding time to do that, so I have to fit it in on weekends."
Sometimes, Lindsay revealed, her son joins in on her Pilates sessions. "When he started to get bigger," she said, "I was like, 'I'm using you. You're now my weight.' It's the best."
But before you think she's being parent trapped into bouncing back to her pre-pregnancy body, she explained why that's not the case.
"Health and fitness are one thing," the Freaky Friday star pointed out, "but you need time to mentally let yourself take a beat. Your body just went through this crazy experience and trauma. It's so important that you accept yourself and cherish every moment."
If anything, she doesn't want other moms to feel pressured to lose their baby weight.
"There's no rush," Lindsay stressed. "You're not missing anything. You shouldn't have any FOMO. You will get there in all good time. Everyone is different, but we're all similar in one thing that it's a learning experience—and it's a beautiful one."
We'll cheers to that.
